Illinois Valley Autism Center is accepting resumes for the position of Behavior Technician. It is a very rewarding position but it is also very demanding both mentally and physically.
Physically we are looking for individuals who have the ability to easily lift 50 lbs, who can run and jump with the children, who can react quickly if a child suddenly bolts or begins to engage in an activity that could jeopardize their safety. We are also looking for individuals who can move quickly between activities which often require them to get up and down from the floor throughout the day.
Mentally we are looking for individuals who can recognize and follow a child's motivation, can play and engage a child, who has the ability to continually take and record data with no interruption of activity/instruction, can adapt to an ever changing environment yet be extremely organized, and who can effectively communicate and work well with families and other staff members.
Our Behavioral Technicians typically work 1:1 with learners and because of the importance of this position we provide comprehensive training regardless of experience that may continue for several months. Our training includes online courses, direct observations, data collecting trials and supervised hands on training. It is only after training is completed and all competency tests have been passed that candidates are removed from "trainee" status and become a Behavioral Technician.
We are looking for a truly exceptional technician that has an extraordinarily insightful manner as well as an empathetic, kind and patient character. We are also looking for an employee that is enthusiastic and has the natural ability to make therapy fun!
