Illinois Valley Autism Center Application for Employment

We are currently hiring for the position of: REGISTERED BEHAVIOR TECHNICIAN

Illinois Valley Autism Center in Peru, IL is looking for individuals that have a heart and a strong aspiration to work with children that are affected by autism. The person we are looking for must be able to feel empathy for the child and their family while driven to providing the best applied behavior analysis (ABA) possible in hopes and expectation that the child will reach their full potential. This is not just a job. If a candidate truly has the selfless character for this position then this opportunity in itself is rewarding and will be fulfilling.

We are a small group that strives to provide the best ABA and a great working environment…obtaining and maintaining a good working environment means finding the right individuals that dedicate themselves to the children and have a strong positive attitude that uplifts the client, families and Center. And if the candidate can easily make therapy fun along with all the above great qualities they will become a very valued member of the team—with opportunity for advancement if they have that desire.

The training process to become a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) can easily take three months just to get the basics and pass the test. Although they are always learning and they are always challenged. A great RBT will develop the ability to analysis situations and suggest ABA principled interventions from what they know and observe as a RBT to the BCBA. The BCBA is in charge of the therapy and the direction it goes but an insightful RBT is invaluable to the child, BCBA and the Center!

We pay the candidate during training and typically keep the training to 29 hours a week.

Once a Trainee passes the comprehensive tests and the BCBA approves them they must go to a Pearson Vue and sit for the exam. Once the Trainee passes the exam they become a RBT and their name is listed on the BACB.com website.

This job is physical. A candidate must be able to lift 50 pounds, who can run and jump with the child, who can react quickly if a child suddenly bolts or tried to engage in an activity that could jeopardize their safety. The candidate must also be able to move quickly between activities which often require them to get up and down from the floor throughout the day.

Mentally we are looking for individuals who can recognize and follow a child's motivation, can play and engage a child, who has the ability to continually take and record data with no interruption of activity/instruction, can adapt to an ever changing environment yet be extremely organized, and who can effectively communicate and work well with families and supervisors.

We do a thorough background check and have seen many things appear when a candidate thought the incident was no longer reported. We take the responsibility to find the right individuals seriously and fully expect all candidates to be upfront and honest when filling out our application and in the interview.

We also do an initial drug screening and then random drug screenings afterwards.

We are looking to fill two positions which are 25-40 hours a week. We are open 8:15 a.m. to nearly 7 p.m. 3 days a week and at this time close at 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and 4 p.m. on Fridays. We are not open on Saturdays.
