Reminders Concerning Tardiness, Absence, and Illness

ILLNESS
The goal of this illness policy is to enable all the children attending the Center to participate while healthy and not struggling through their session or contaminating other children or adults.  It is our policy that the child cannot attend therapy if they have any health issue that is contagious or if the child has missed school within the last 24 hours.

If the child displays any of the symptoms listed under Suspicion of Infectious Illness/Diseases (which is the next section below) during therapy we will call the parent and/or emergency pick up numbers provided and ask them to pick up the child immediately.  The child must be picked up within 1 hour of being notified by the staff members.  If a child is not picked up within one hour there will be a $10.00 fee assessed per every 15 minutes.  This fee will not be billed to insurance but directly to the responsible party on the Contract.

SUSPICION OF INFECTIOUS ILLNESS/DISEASES
We try to protect the Center, your child, and our staff from illness and therefore if your child has any of the following they will be excluded:

• If a child has a fever of 100 degrees F or higher, taken underarm.
• If a child has been prescribed antibiotics the child will be excluded until a physician provides the child with a written clearance to return to therapy.
• If the child has cold symptoms such as a cough, persistent congestion, discharge or phlegm that is yellow or green and are not discounted as allergy will be excluded until they are symptom free.  In some cases, the child must have a physician’s written clearance before returning to therapy.
• If a child has strep throat the child will be excluded until a physician provides the child with a written clearance to return to therapy.
• If a child has diarrhea they will be excluded for 24 hours and diarrhea free or a physician determines that it is not related to an infectious illness and provides the child a written clearance to return to therapy.  However, the diarrhea must be able to be contained by way of pull ups etc and does not contaminate the Center.
• If a child vomits they will be excluded for the rest of the day and until the vomiting stops.
• If a child has a rash with fever they will be excluded until a physician determines that it is not related to an infectious illness and provides the child written clearance to return to therapy.
• If a child has eye drainage (including conjunctivitis—pink eye) they will be excluded until physician provides the child a written clearance to return to therapy.
• If a child has an unusual color they will be excluded until a physician determines that it is not related to an infectious illness and provides the child a written clearance to return to therapy.
• If a child has mouth sores w/drooling they will be excluded until a physician determines that it is not related to an infectious illness and provides the child a written clearance to return to therapy.
• If the child has lice the child will be excluded until a physician provides the child a written clearance to return to therapy.
• If the child has chicken pox the child will be excluded until a physician provides the child with a written clearance to return to therapy.
• If the child has ringworm the child will be excluded until a physician provides the child with a written clearance to return to therapy.
• If the child has impetigo the child will be excluded until a physician provides the child with  written clearance to return to therapy.

You are required to let the Program Manager or Director know in writing (email is fine but you will need a confirmation that the notification was received) if your child has been exposed to or is diagnosed with chicken pox, rubella (German measles), roseola, fifth disease, lice, pink eye, or any other contagious illnesses. In case of contagious illnesses, the child cannot return to therapy until parents obtain a written statement from the child’s doctor that the child is free of a contagious illness and may return to therapy.

When considered necessary, the Center may require additional medical information, examination and/or medical tests prior to the child continuing therapy.

TARDINESS
Your child should arrive and be ready for their session at the scheduled time.

If your child arrives late we may--at our discretion--assess a $10.00 fee for each 15 minutes up to a max of $100 when the session will be cancelled.  This fee will not be billed to insurance but directly to the responsible party.

Please arrive at least ten minutes early to pick up your child.  Please understand that therapists have a limited amount of time between therapy sessions to record session data and/or to have their legally required lunch break.  Please be considerate.

If you are late picking up your child we may assess a $10.00 fee for each 15 minutes until the child is picked up.  This will not be billed to insurance but directly to the responsible party.
